The recently released 2018 James Halliday Wine Companion has continued its ‘5 red star rating’ for Grampians Estate putting in the top 8% of wineries in Australia.
To achieve this rating, wineries need to have a minimum of two wines over 95 points for three years in a row. These wineries are described as an “outstanding winery regularly producing wines of exemplary quality and typicity”.
The 95-point wines were the 2015 Mafeking Shiraz (sold out) and the 2014 Streeton Reserve Shiraz (2 doz available), the latter having been sold to China.
The 2015 Grampians GST was rated a 94: “A 60/30/10 blend creates a juicy wine with the fruit sweetness and spice of the Grenache to the fore. It’s immediately enjoyable, with wafts of red fruits, florals, and licorice allsorts and a hint of savouriness. A lighter-framed palate and grainy tannins with zesty acidity finish it off neatly. To 2020”.
