For those who like a more full-bodied style of shiraz, this one-off shiraz is for you.
Winestate – Nov/Dec 2019 – New Releases:
Rich dark fruitcake-like aromas with a bright spicy lift and a delightful palate that is a perfect seamless balance between the sweet plum fruit, oak, tannins and acid. 5 stars.
This wine is 86% Cabernet and 14% Shiraz. The Cabernet was sourced from Melbourne Polytechnic vineyard in Ararat. The wine was aged in French oak hogsheads of which 25% new oak. 13.0% alc. A cooler climate style of Cabernet, this wine has good dark red colour with aromas of mint, menthol and blackcurrant. The palate is flavoursome with blackberry flavours. It is surprisingly pleasant to enjoy as a young wine although I suspect it will improve with cellaring.
Spicy, medium-full bodied shiraz ready for drinking now!
The palate is rich and lingering with soft round tannins and lively succulent fruit.
The fruit on the palate is dense and rich and amazingly balanced with the soft oak and mature tannins. This wine will easily age for the next 7-10 years although is soft enough to be enjoyed now if the moment grabs you.
Winestate – Nov/Dec 2019 – New Releases: ‘Intense aromas reminiscent of black licorice, olives and cola, with a big, soft and seductive palate, rich with spicy berry flavours with lashings of licorice and grippy tannins. 5 stars.’
Celebrating the famous Stawell Gift – the world’s richest footrace – this wine made exclusively from Grampians region shiraz will have you ‘up and about’ and ‘racing’ back for more. An easy drinking style.
With the 2017 St Ethels winning the Premier’s Trophy, it pushed back the release of the 2016 vintage until now. The 2016 St Ethels shiraz is from a warmer vintage leading to a Shiraz chock full of red fruit flavours. Single Vineyard, handpicked, 14.5% alc, RRP $50. Winestate 5 stars.
Halliday Wine Companion 2021: A single vineyard sourcing, with vines dating back to the 1880’s, this delivers in terms of a sudden leap from the lower tier wines into a scope of not just power, but riper and well-toned tannins. These service the avalanche of fruit cascading from fore to aft. An impressively vinous wine of compelling length, showcasing the Grampians tapestry of scents and flavours: anise, mint, bitter chocolate and unctuous dark fruit riffs. 95 points. Gold.
The 2017 Streeton Reserve Shiraz is a single vineyard Shiraz from the family’s Mafeking Vineyard. It is one of eight different wines from the 2017 vintage which won Gold Medals at wine shows making that vintage the best ever for Grampians Estate.
Lovely spice and pepper on the nose, red fruits dominated by fresh raspberries fill a powerful yet elegant palate, perfumed integrated oak. Smooth and open with an enjoyable lingering finish. Beautiful oak and fruit interaction.
Winestate – Nov/Dec 2018 – New Releases: “A very stylish wine that has balance and length and is a delicious combination of dark plums fruit and sweet caramel-like oak showing a dash of spice.” 4.5 stars.
